The iconic musical phenomenon, “Jesus Christ Superstar,” is back on the stage in a stunning new production to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Originally presented by London’s Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, this production is directed by the acclaimed Timothy Sheader, known for his work on “Crazy for You” and “Into the Woods,” and choreographed by the cutting-edge Drew McOnie, who has worked on productions like “King Kong” and “Strictly Ballroom.” This production won the 2017 Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival and received widespread critical acclaim.
Appealing to both theater audiences and concert music fans, this production pays tribute to the historic 1971 Billboard Album of the Year while creating a modern, theatrical world that is uniquely fresh and inspiring. With award-winning lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, “Jesus Christ Superstar” is set against the backdrop of an extraordinary series of events during the final weeks of Jesus Christ’s life as seen through Judas’s eyes.
