Lagniappe – noun \ˈlan-ˌyap, lan-ˈ\
something given or obtained gratuitously or by way of good measure.
On Friday nights, one of my favorite haps to hit up is #TheTippingPoint. That’s where my friend, DJ RQ Away, spins. Not only is he one of my good friends, but he’s one of my favorite DJs. He’s the only DJ I’ve known to mix Kirk Franklin’s “Brighter Day” in with Bobby Shmurda’s “Hot N*gga.” (God, forgive me, but it was so good, I had to dance.)
Aside from his weekly event, RQ Away sporadically puts on the social event, Lagniappe, which is a little “something extra” for his #Awayteam brand supporters. The past editions of Lagniappe have been more than words could express. The Jan. 2 show hosted over 700 people at Tipitina’s. SEVEN HUNDRED. This go ’round (and for the first time), it’ll be at The Parish at the House of Blues.
Tip: Dress comfortably and cool.
Translation: If it’s below 40˚ outside, you might wanna take the chance of catching pneumonia because it is going to be HOT inside. And I’m not exaggerating. RQ Away brings that heat which brings a really big crowd (see the above line about 700 people. SEVEN HUNDRED). If you decide to layer up, be prepared to leave soaked through.
