The Weekend Spill: Dru Hill, Bayou Boogaloo, Big Boi, Bugs and Brew

It’s not even Memorial Day weekend and the city is loaded with events. From festivals, to concerts, to dance parties, you’re bound to find something to get into. Have fun!

ALL WEEKEND

Bayou Boogaloo – Grab your sunscreen and shades, and canoe down Bayou St. John for the Mid-City festival. All weekend long, enjoy 25 food and drink vendors, live music, and family fun. If you heard there was a fee to get into the festival this year, plans have changed. Admission is now FREE, but festival goers are still encouraged to make a $10 donation to go towards costs of bands, infrastructure, security and other necessary items.

FRIDAY, MAY 18

Dru Hill & Sisqo: Enter the Dru 20th Anniversary Tour – Tell the truth: Can you say Dru Hill’s name without hopping into the tune of “Tell Me”? Neither can I. One of your favorite boy groups from the 90s and 2000s will be reuniting on stage. Sisqo, Nokio, Jazz, and recent member Tao, will be performing live at the House of Blues New Orleans for their 20th anniversary tour. Doors at 8 p.m., show starts at 9 p.m.

Jim Jones – From NY to N.O., Jim Jones will be performing live at the Howling’ Wolf. Doors open at 9 p.m. There will be an official afterparty to follow.

Soulful Takeover with DJ Soul Sister – From 10P – 2A, be prepared to let DJ Soul Sister take over your soul on the dance floor at One Eyed Jacks. Admission is $10, but, as always, it’s free to party.

The Tipping Point – Good Music. Good People. Good Vibes. All going down for free at the Dragon’s Den. 10P.

Bugs & Brew Festival – The crawfish cook-off and beer festival is held every year to benefit the Drew Rodrigue Foundation, a New Orleans non-profit honoring a local football coach who battled cancer. The festival will feature a crawfish boiling competition, crawfish-inspired dishes from various, local restaurants, a Louisiana beer garden, local music, and children’s entertainment. The family-friendly festival will be held from 3-8 p.m. on Fulton St.

Big Boi – Daddy Fat Saxxx Tour – The Third Leg – One of hip-hop’s most legendary artists, half of outkast, Sir Lucious Leftfoot himself, Big Boi, will be performing live at the Joy Theater. Doors at 8 p.m., show starts at 9 p.m.

Ascendance presents Às̩e̩: Taurus Season – If you’re a Taurus, check out the video above and realize that you need to be at Cafe Istanbul on Saturday night from 11 p.m. to 2 a.m. It’s lit!

SUNDAY, MAY 20
DC Young Fly + Karlous Miller’s 85 South Show – The weekly comedy show is bringing the funnies to you live to New Orleans at the House of Blues with special guests Clayton English and Chico Bean. Door at 7 p.m., show at 8 p.m.

Abstract Nola: Concert & Market Series – Various creatives come together to share their love for the arts during this event series. The event features live music, performances, live art, shopping, and food. This weekend, Cool Nasty Band, Paasky, and Ariee will be performing the showcase hosted by WDSU’s Casey Ferrand. Free admish with RSVP.
