If you know anything about my life, you know that I love a good sip every now and again, I like my drinks strong, and I’m always down for the brown. Which means, I’m a whiskey girl! Well, a few weeks back, I was invited to a dinner and tasting for Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey. In the above picture, if you look to the right, fourth person, you’ll see me — all in my phone. Just documenting the haps for you!
Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey pays homage to the artful passion and renowned craftsmanship of the legendary Stitzel-Weller Distillery with a unique solera aging system. This solera process preserves some of the oldest whiskey stocks, including the last remaining bourbon ever produced at Stitzel-Weller before it shut its doors in 1992.
It is now available in nine markets with NOLA being its newest addition. Okay, so let’s get to the point. I’ve been to my share of dinners and tastings, but none of them provided complimentary Uber black rides to and from the event. And non of them started with a cocktail hour. So, those two things had me stoked. The event took place at Chef John Besh’s new private events venue, Pigeon & Prince, which sits on the corner of Camp and Common Streets in the heart of New Orleans’ CBD area.
It’s such a cute space! The cocktail hour took place on the rooftop of the building, which I later found out was John Besh’s living quarters (not sure if it’s true). Bartenders freshened our palettes with two featured drinks of the night:
Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Guinness syrup, lemon, chicory pecan bitters
Listen to the Spirit
Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, green apple purée,
allspice syrup, chili liquor, cinnamon
These two cocktails are great for any party or intimate night in with friends. If you’re looking for something on the sweeter side, Listen to the Spirit is the one for you. If you like your cocktails with a bit of a punch, The Multitasker will give you just that. Of course that’s why it’s my fave, haha. Blade and Bow Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is 91 proof, 45.5% (ABV – alcohol by volume), so pour with ease! If you’re in NOLA, you can purchase your own 750ml bottle at Martin Wine Cellar starting at $50! Each bottle has its own collectible Blade and Bow skeleton key. If you collect all five, you’re in for a treat.
DINNER TIME!
Walking into the room was… it was so beautiful. The candelit dinner table was set for about 30 people. In addition to each place setting was a set up of ingredients for an old fashioned, the dinner menu, and a skeleton key. At first I was super confused as to why there were these old keys on the table, but I soon found out that the keys were actually stirrers for our self-made Old Fashioned cocktails. It was so cool.
ON THE MENU:
Asian Pear, Farmhouse Dairy Feta, Spiced Pecans, La Provence Honey Vinaigrette
Grilled Rack of Lamb
Creamy Polenta, black Tuscan Kale, Confit Heirloom Tomatoes
Hot Brioche Bread Pudding
Sticky buttered Blade and Bow whiskey sauce, house made Vanilla ice cream
