Weekend Spill

This weekend is all about festivals. I haven’t seen so many festivals happen in one weekend. Want home-cooked catfish? There’s a festival for that. How about a nice glass of vino? There’s a fest for that. Whatever you’re in the mood for, I’m sure one of these fests can supply your need. Have fun!

ALL WEEKEND

FestiGals Women’s Weekend Experience – Over the next few days, women empowering women are taking over the city. FestiGals host “a weekend for women to enjoy themselves, be inspired and become empowered in a safe, festive environment.” From the Step Up Second-Line Parade, to the After-Glow Party, this weekend will be packed with events to get you rejuvenated.

Louisiana Catfish Festival – Take the family on a short road trip to Des Allemands, LA, for the catfish fest. Guests will be able to sample home cooked food of all things catfish, hear live music, hop on rides, play games and more. The festival is held on the grounds of St. Gertrude the Great Catholic Church.

Louisiana Cajun-Zydeco Festival – If Cajun and Zydeco music are your thing, this fest will have a stellar lineup featuring many of Louisiana’s most beloved Cajun and zydeco performers. Saturday + Sunday.

NOLA Caribbean Fest – On Saturday and Sunday, the fest celebrates Caribbean cuisine, music, dance, and culture at Central City BBQ. There are a good bit of events within the festival’s weekend: Pool party, parade, after fest party — it’s lit!

FRIDAY, JUNE 22

Dinner and a ZOOvie – Audubon Zoo will be screening the live-action, sing-a-long version of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. Gates open at 6 p.m., the movie starts at 8 p.m. Cool Zoo/Gator Run will be open from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. ZOOvie movie tickets are $6, ZOOvie/Cool Zoo tickets are $12. Free for kids under 2 years old.

SATURDAY

Summer Wine Festival – Join the French American Chamber of Commerce at Canal Place for a lively French-style summer party showcasing wines, beers, spirits and an auction while enjoying jazz music.
