18 Years Ago Today, the Hot Boys Released Guerrilla Warfare

Hot Boys - Guerrilla Warfare 1999

Before Lil Wayne became one of the greatest rappers alive, and before Juvenile made us “Back That Azz Up,” the two were apart of the infamous Hot Boys, a rap group straight out of New Orleans.

On July 27, 1999, Lil Wayne, Juvenile, B.G., and Turk broke out with an album that would soon become a national treasure—Guerrilla Warfare. And 18 years later, the album is still legendary AF. Although Guerilla Warfare was the Hot Boys’ second studio album, it was the one that put them on the map. Produced by Mannie Fresh, Guerrilla Warfare featured the lead single, “We On Fire”, which peaked at #49 on the U.S. Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks, and another top-charting single, “I Need A Hot Girl,” which peaked at #65 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.

To this day, I can listen to this album and rap along word-for-word. Guerrilla Warfare will always be near and dear to my heart because, not only was it the first Hot Boys album I owned (I was in my early teens), but it’s the first album that gave four kids from the worst parts of New Orleans a chance to shine. And let’s not forget, it’s a classic!

What are your favorite tracks off the album? Spill it in the comment section and check out my absolute faves below:
