The Weekend Spill: College Football Playoff National Championship, The Sweet Spot & More

Happy New Year, babes! We’re going into the second weekend of 2020 and it is going to be lit! This weekend, the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship will be taking over the city of New Orleans. The actual game isn’t until Monday, but the weekend will be packed with multiple interactive events leading up to the big day.

From performances featuring H.E.R. and Nas, to zip lining, to autograph signings, there’s a little something for everyone. And if you’re not into all of the sports-packed madness, there are a couple of cool haps to check out!

Playoff Fan Central – Held at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, thousands of fans will be able to participate in this 200,000 square-foot interactive experience. For the entire weekend, fans will have access to games, pep rallies, band performances, clinics, special guest appearances, autograph signings, and more. 10A-5P.

AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! – This free concert series will be the soundtrack to the entire weekend of the 2020 College Football Playoff National Championship. From Saturday thru Monday, stop by to the Allstate Championship Tailgate Plaza to catch performances by H.E.R., Nas, New Orleans’ own, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, and more! Gates open at 4P and admission is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Allstate Championship Tailgate Plaza – A place for fans near and far to come together, the Allstate Championship Tailgate Plaza is a free, outdoor tailgating experience like no other. Fans will be able to enjoy multiple activities from zip lining, to savoring BBQ, to rocking out to a star-studded concert. Sponsored by Capital One, the plaza will be located in Jax Brewery parking lot on Saturday and Sunday (2-11P), and also Woldenberg Park on Sunday (Noon-4:30P). It will also house all of ESPN’s live broadcasts leading up to the championship game.

SATURDAY, JAN. 11 & SUNDAY JAN. 12
3rd Annual New Orleans Tamale Fest – Pull up to Poor Boys Bar from noon-6P on Saturday and 1-5P on Sunday, and dig into all things tamales! Festival goers can indulge in a tamale eating contest, a tamale queen/king competition, face painting, and more! $5 cover w/ tickets and $8 at the door. Kids 10 y/o and under get in free.

FRIDAY, JAN. 10
1Social Presents The Living Room Experience – An R&B live music series that, according to its description, “features rising musicians performing in an intimate venue matched with great food and drinks to compliment.” Housed at the Ace Hotel’s Three Keys venue, The Living Room Experience is a laid back, cool, and soulful vibe. 9:30P.

SATURDAY, JAN. 11
The Sweet Spot New Orleans: The Soaring Twenties Edition – Experience the world’s best performance poets, live body art models, sultry burlesque dancers, live music, fashion, comedy and the most electrified host you have ever seen. If you have never partied from your seat at this “Pop Erotica” burlesque show, let this be the first time! Tickets | House of Blues, 8P.

Hustle! with DJ Soul Sister – Starting at 11:30P, be prepared to let DJ Soul Sister take over your soul on the dance floor at her Hustle! event at the Ace Hotel. The best part? Admish is free!
