Over the weekend, The Carters made their way to New Orleans for one of the ten last stops of their On the Run II Tour. While they were here, Mayor Latoya Cantrell surprised Jay-Z with a key to the city. The power couple recently launched and announced their OTR II scholarship fund that benefits cities on their tour.

According to beyonce.com, the program is “to award one exceptional senior high school student with financial needs in the remaining US markets along the tour. Each recipient will have $100K put toward their enrollment and the award will serve as a dedicated university-based fund for each selected student throughout the duration of their enrollment.”

Mayor Cantrell granted Jay the key to highlight his and Beyoncé’s collective humanitarian work.

Speaking of their scholarship program, the New Orleans winner was announced during DJ Khaled’s set. Ghaffar-Ibn Hayman, a 17-year-old, Boys & Girls Club member, and senior at the International High School of New Orleans, took home $100K. He plans to attend the University of California-Davis or Cornell University and become Veterinarian. Here’s his reaction to receiving the scholarship. Congrats to him!
